The Lot No. 3 India Pale Ale, from Evolution Craft Brewing Co. out of Delaware, came to me through a trade from from Matt A. I recently jumped feet first into the world of beer trading, thanks to Beer Advocate and their trading forum, and what an addiction it has become. This year-round American-style IPA sits at 6.8% ABV and I’m hoping for something big from this small brewery.

With the premiere of Discovery’s Brew Masters Sunday night, I felt I needed to pay an homage to this season’s star, Sam Caligione, the owner and founder of Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton, Delaware. I picked up some of the more limited release beers and decided to begin with the Squall IPA, a labeled “Bottle unconditioned naturally fermented 90 Minute India Pale Ale.”

Magic Hat is a brewery that many individuals start with for the true introduction to craft beer. I know many of my friends that have tried Magic Hat #9 and have never looked back. This year, they brought us the return of the Blind Faith IPA at 6.2% ABV, a bit lower than the IPA-norm.

The Stone 13th Anniversary Ale was created for an obvious reason: their 13th birthday! Well with Stone entering their teenage years as of 2009, their product was this American Strong Ale. Unfortunately for me, the bottle clearly states to consume immediately and not age. Well, it’s 2010, so forgive me if it’s past its prime.

It should be well known by now I’m quite the fan of India Pale Ales. On my journey I’m now coming across the Indica, an IPA, from Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe out of California. In comparison with some others I’ve encountered, this ABV is on the lower end of the scale at 6.5% ABV, but the flavor profile makes this one shine.
