This will not be a normal beer review post, or even editorial. I’m treating this post as a travel log detailing my beer related experiences during a recent business trip to Germany. I went in knowing little about the city I was staying in and what to expect when I got there. I had traveled to Germany before with my family, but this trip I tried to be less of a tourist and try to get a more local experience. What follows below is details of what I ate, drank, saw and experienced during the time I wasn’t working.

Cooking with Beer2

It’s obvious that those who like good beer like good food, as I’ve had some of my best meals at places with impressive beer menus. The intersection of these two things is of course cooking good food with good beer. I by no means am educated enough in the culinary world to start throwing out recipe ideas and the technical nuances of cooking with beer, but what I will do is provide some general guidelines and ideas that I have gathered over the years. I’ll also give you some of my favorite recipes from others that I have tried or seen in the past.

One of my favorite local spots in Reading, PA is Canal Street Pub & Restaurant, nestled deep off downtown Penn Street. One of Reading’s best kept secrets, Canal Street is home to an array of different craft beer housing around fifteen different craft beer [only] taps at all time and boasting a multi-page bottle list.

Nick on Craft Ale House2

Craft Ale House is located right on Ridge Pike in Limerick, PA – about 30-40 minutes outside of Philadelphia. The building is a modestly sized establishment with an occupancy around one-hundred people. The layout is split, with the bar on one half and the dining area on the other half. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the lighting. It is dim and very relaxing, but not too dark.
