The Belgian brewery Brouwerij Bavik created a “paler” version of their traditional local style Petrus Oud Bruin called Petrus Aged Pale. This year round Flanders Oud Bruin at 7.3% ABV, encompasses some sour and tart notes typical for the style. I sampled this on draft last night at Craft Ale House, my second time having this but first time notating it’s qualities.

Up until this year, Lost Abbey’s Red Poppy Ale, a Flanders Oud Bruin, received little to no distribution outside of California. Fortunately, the 2011 release went into their full distribution network, giving us the chance in the Philadelphia area to get our hands on some. Nick and I decided to share a bottle of this rather expensive beer at Craft Ale House last night.
Monk’s Cafe, located on 16th and Spruce in Philadelphia, PA, is home to some incredible Belgian beers. One I’ve had plenty of times is their Flemish Sour Red Ale, brewed by Brouwerij Van Steenberge N.V. in Belgium. While I’ve had the Flemish Sour on draft before, I’ve got an 11.2 oz bottle with me today.
