Shane’s constant talk recently about Barleywines pushed me over the edge in getting one to review. Wanting to stay local, I picked up the Dock Street Barrel Aged Barley Wine from the Dock Street brewpub in Philadelphia. The large 750ml bottle with a plain brown label on the front that drew me in with its simplicity.

Review: Anchor Old Foghorn0

The Anchor Old Foghorn is an English-style Barleywine that seemed to be a bit lighter in its alcohol content at 8.8% ABV. That is, compared to some other ones I’ve had like the Dogfish Head Olde School which holds a massive 15.04% ABV. Having said that, the Old Foghorn is quite sessionable for the style, and that’s nothing to complain about.

Review: Old Abominable Barleywine (Brewer’s Reserve)0

When Shane and I were accompanied with a group of friends to the Stoudt’s Brewery tour, I ended up picking up a bottle of the Old Abominable Barleywine (Brewer’s Reserve). The Brewer’s Reserve from Stoudt’s is a chance for the brewmasters to give a twist to one of their signature beers. The brew came in a 750 ml bottle that is hand corked.

Review: Dogfish Head Olde School1

Ever since I tried my first Dogfish Head beer, I’ve been a fan. Recently, the Olde School Barleywine caught my attention from both my love for the brewery and the style and ABV. An impressive 15% ABV makes this beer not too sessionable but worthy for a review.
