Review: Maui Brewing Mana Wheat0

fact sheet

  • Style: Pale Wheat Ale
  • Serving: Can
  • Volume: 12 oz
  • ABV: 5.50%

Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean that it’s time to put the Wheat beers away. I have enjoyed a few offerings from Maui Brewing in the past so I have high hopes for the Mana Wheat, especially since it’s made with pineapple juice. I’m thinking that alone should prove to be quite tasty.

Like other Maui beers the Mana Wheat comes in a can straight from Hawaii. The beer has a great golden orange color with a good amount of haze. The two finger high, just-off-white head leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass. There is a nice yeasty wheat aroma but with a lighter character than most. There is also a great medley of pineapple, citrus, and banana.

Upfront the Mana Wheat has a nice wheat flavor with some of the pineapple thrown in. This leads into sweet bready malts and splashes of fruit juice throughout. The finish is fairly dry but certainly refreshing. The body is fairly light and smooth on the palate, with plenty of carbonation to style.

Overall, the Mana Wheat feels a bit watered down, and leaves me wanting a little more. That isn’t to say that it doesn’t have good flavors. The pineapple and citrus elements are great and work well with the comparatively lighter wheat elements. If you can find this one in your area and you want a light refreshing wheat beer, certainly give it a shot.
