Review: Brasserie Dupont Saison Dupont0
fact sheet
- Style: Saison
- Serving: Bottle
- Volume: 750 ml
- ABV: 6.50%
I have walked by the classic Saison Dupont from Brasserie Dupont time and time again without trying it, but recently decided to pick one up to sample. This beer is readily available in most areas I have visited year-round, and is relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of other bottles on the market. Shane and I split the 750 ml bottle one night last week during a tasting, and served into two tulip glasses.
The Saison Dupont pours a beautiful golden colored body with the slightest bit of haze to it. The wheat colored beer is topped nicely by a foamy four-fingered head, leaving really nice lacing and retention around the glass. Up front on the aroma is tons of a classic Belgian yeast characteristic that you find in Saisons. Accentuating this are notes of clove, banana and a general herbal aroma.
This Saison is exactly what one would expect when it comes to delivering a traditional, classic flavor profile. The strong Belgian yeast translates well from the aroma to the taste, bringing a spicy and musky flavor. More banana, clove, funk and grassy notes come through at the mid and back of the palate. It’s highly carbonated, smooth and somewhat dry on the finish.
It should be no surprise that is the epitome of a Belgian Saison, and a reasonably priced one at that. If you’re a fan of the style this is certainly one worth picking up to try. Well let’s be honest, you have to try this one. I can’t believe it took me so long.
