Weyerbacher is situated in Easton, Pennsylvania and was founded by a home brewer in 1995. Since then, it has developed into a well known and well respected microbrewery throughout the Northeast. Having had other Weyerbacher brews in the past, their Hops Infusion IPA is up this time for tasting.
The 12 oz bottle that I did the tasting from is labeled with vivid imagery about what you are about to enjoy; a nice picture of some quality hops used to make the beer (Cascade, Pilgrim, etc. – seven in total). This beer poured a little bit darker (dark amber) than what I was expecting from an IPA and had a nice one finger head, leaving a nice lacing around the glass.
The aromas that strike you right from the very beginning are hops, hops, and some more hops – go figure. I personally enjoy hoppy beers and was quite pleased to start trying this one, but before I jump to the taste there were several other key scents that came from the glass. The beer had nice citrus undertones to it including lemon zest and a hint of juicy, pink grapefruit.
The malts in this brew began to shine through in the taste; however, it’s well balanced with a nice bite of bitterness from the hops. The citrusy undertones mentioned above in the aroma come through and start to shine, lasting into the linger. The balance of the sweetness from the caramel malt helps balance out the bitterness.
This beer was a solid enjoyable IPA from Weyerbacher and the name holds true: Hops Infusion it is. This beer hit all the right spots for me, being a hop lover and I would recommend this as a solid brew for anyone that enjoys a hoppy bite to their beers. Kudos to Weyerbacher on another great brew!
Overall: 8.5/10
