Craft Beer Can Revolution2

I personally remember the first time I heard of craft beer in a can, I turned my nose. In fact, it was Oskar Blues that first sparked my eye into the craft beer in cans world. And it seems now everyone is doing it. With summer quickly approaching, notable craft breweries are scrambling to pump out canned versions of their beer.

Lets not be so quick to judge, as I once was. There are plenty of benefits to having your craft beer in a can.

  1. It’s easier to transport: Bottles are bigger and cans are smaller. Simple as that.
  2. You can take them more places: Parks, beaches and places that restrict glass.
  3. They keep the beer fresher: Cans protect against UV light damage better than brown bottles.

Having said all that, do you see why craft beer in cans rock?! And then trend keeps growing, within the past few weeks, breweries all across America have been announcing the addition of some great brews to a new canned lineup. Here are just a few we’ve been notified of thus far:

There are plenty more in the upcoming months and into the Fall, as well as some coming this Summer we’ve probably missed. But look out – this is the next big thing (and great thing) for craft beer lovers. As always, make notes of your thoughts and give the breweries feedback. I haven’t noticed any “metallic” taste with the canned craft beers I’ve had so far, but I can’t say it won’t happen.

Embrace it folks, the Craft Beer Can Revolution is here!

To be honest, this is the first I’ve heard of craft brew in a can. On the one hand, it’s not surprising (noting your pro’s list). On the other hand, it still feels like an adulteration… but that’s just the shell shock I guess.

Personally, I like collecting the caps (nerdy, but I have a vision of a beer-cap table top some day in the future!), and I like drinking my beer out of a glass. Of course, a can doesn’t prevent drinking a brew from a glass.

I guess maybe it’s the tradition of glass and beer that makes this feel weird.

    Jacob -

Don’t resist craft beer in a can. It truly is one of the best things to happen to craft beer. Breweries left-and-right and moving to it, and consumers love it. You’re definitely experiencing what may be “shell shock” but don’t worry, I was in the same boat.

Try the Gubna or Gordon from Oskar Blues in a can (they’re probably the easiest to find now, since they’ve been canning for years). It’s incredible. If you’re a craft beer lover, you’ll embrace it.

Thanks again for reading. Drink the best and stay safe.
