Review: Rogue Dead Guy Ale0

fact sheet

  • Style: Maibock
  • Serving: Bottle
  • Volume: 12oz
  • ABV: 6.50%

Rogue has been a name that I have associated with a great microbrews, based on their reputation. They proudly distribute this as one of their signature brews across the country. Based out of Oregon, the Dead Guy Ale is a Maibock-style beer that was originally brewed for “All Saints Day,” November 1st.  The brewery claims that the label is not a tribute to the Grateful Dead but merely a coincidence.

The Dead Guy comes in at 6.5% ABV and pours a wonderful honey-amber color, with slight carbonation. The head on the beer was a beautiful, fluffy white two-finger head. Lacing was steady and present throughout the drink.

The aroma is full of sweet, malty goodness. It reminded me of malty sugar mixed with hops. There is a trace of yeast mixed in with the sweetness and also a very subtle, floral undertones to the aroma which are nice and refreshing.

Wow, what can I say, but let me describe the deliciousness that was in my 12 oz bottle. The brew is a solid Ale, rich with caramel malt and a nice, subtle fruity taste mixed in for good measure. The Ale is medium-bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation for a nice balance. This was a very delicious and sessionable brew. I found myself enjoying this more and more the less I had left in my glass.

I was lucky enough to pick up another one of Rogue’s beers for review on another day, which after the Dead Guy Ale, I am looking forward to. The Dead Guy is one I would order at the bar or possibly pick up a whole case of; it’s very drinkable and enjoyable. Overall, a very solid beer, well done Rogue.

Overall: 9/10
